New Website Helps Limo Company Owners Slash Marketing Costs
Business travelers, brides bachelorettes, partygoers and others needing specialty transportation are finding exactly what they want, when they want it at a new referral website, ReserveLimo.com. “I quit calling our executives and making excuses why I couldn’t get them what they wanted,” said corporate travel planner Brenda Ferris. “Even when they call me at the last minute, I can reserve what they want and not settle for less.” At ReserveLimo.com, potential renters specify the type of event, vehicle style they need, number of people, geographic travel area, dates and times and special needs. A search of the ReserveLimo member database matches available services with their needs and generates an online referral to the prospect and the supplier. With this referral, the prospect may view member supplied or stock equipment photos, a member supplied products and services selling message, and service comments submitted by prior customers. Users of ReserveLimo.com services report that entering information on their needs one time and receiving referrals only for services that match these needs are preferable to researching web sites and phone books and making calls. Users of ReserveLimo.com appreciate the non-threatening nature of their contact with the referral website. They also comment that by considering only suppliers who meet their exact needs, they don’t have to waste their time listening to sales presentations from unqualified companies trying to talk them into settling for less than what they want. Transportation services company owners note that the cost per new customer from ReserveLimo.com referrals is substantially less than pay per click advertising that directs prospects to their website. ReserveLimo national marketing, their policy of sending only prequalified referrals, and a referral fee of under one dollar are helping company owners reduce their overall marketing budgets. “Gas prices are killing us. Letting them [ReserveLimo] do the marketing is helping me keep my costs down,” commented one transportation services company executive. Information on becoming a ReserveLimo advertiser is available at www.reservelimo.com under the “add your limo service” tab.

Protest
I received this email and would like to share it with you my friends. Dear Colleagues, At the risk of boring the ‘uninterested’ ones we feel we must update you all on our progress. We have managed to muddle through another hectic weekend and we hope you all have managed to get through it unscathed. We thank everyone for the enormous response we have received. It is truly heart warming to at last realise we are not alone down here in deepest, darkest Wales, and that there are tens, if not hundreds of other companies in exactly the same position as us. Nearly everyone who rang us or emailed us wanted imminent action in some shape or form and so far we seem to have recruited in excess of 150 limousines, which is fabulous, and the numbers are increasing with every passing day. It is clear there is a real and urgent need for something to be done and indeed the industry is crying out for this. At present, after listening to everyone’s availability it looks as though it will be best to hold an open meeting for all operators on Tuesday 13th May at 7.30pm in Swindon (address below) so it is as central as possible. We can then all bring our diaries and decide when, in the next couple of weeks we can go ahead with our protest. Also on the agenda is to discuss what we want included in the ‘single license’ and generally any other information you would like to bring to a head. It now seems that the NLCA want to do the same thing and protest(on a different day) as they do not want to join us, they would rather have their own, thank you very much. They have said they do not want their members participating in this but instead want them to sign a petition to see if one day, maybe, perhaps some time they might actually want to do it. Since the release of our email it has come to light that one or two key members of the NLCA have been tackled by operators for not being forceful enough over our fight for legislation. Upon hearing about the NLCA’s negative response to our appeal for support Dan phoned Jay (NLCA legislation officer) to explain that it was not a competition, us against them, but we all wanted the same outcome so why not stand together? Dan and I have no desire whatsoever to start another Limo Association – far from it! We want them to do what they are supposed to – fight for the limo operator. We do not want to undermine the good work done by the NLCA but we feel that something needs to be done NOW. Not September or sometime never. NOW! Dan offered the NLCA to take over the protest and head the way and said we would support them with all the following and backing we have to date. They declined the offer, saying that it was too short notice and was not feasible to expect people to organise their diary in time and get to London in 8 days. Dan explained as an owner/driver for 5 years he has on many occasions had a last minute booking on a Sunday that he was too tired to do, or there was no clean cars or he didn’t have a shirt ironed. But when there is a customer at stake we all run around washing cars and glasses and ironing a shirt, whizzing out just in the nick of time and open the door with a smile on your face. That’s what we do. But the NLCA say we cannot possibly wash and fuel a car and be ready in 8 days time!! Jay was convinced Dan only had a bee in his bonnet because he had been prosecuted and found guilty, this is not the case. So Dan went on to discuss self-drive with Jay. Jay said that if run properly, as he does, it is 100% legal and water tight. After he explained it to Dan in length, Dan picked 3 or 4 holes in it straight away and the entire argument crumbled. So from being 100% legal and water tight he reverted to say ‘well, it’s our only way to operate at the moment’ (and that he has just purchased a new COIF Hummersine). As both Dan and I have said we are not on an ego trip or trying to look the big I-am’s, NOR are we looking for sympathy over our prosecutions, but we do want to safeguard our business as we are sure everyone else does. What we need is strength in numbers but once again, the rift in the industry is dividing us into groups. 8’s, 16’s, COIF’d and unCOIF’d, NLCA and non-NLCA. ‘I am not supporting so-and-so because he goes out too cheap’, ‘he has got old cars therefore not as good as me’ and so on and so on. It all needs to stop for this ONE DAY. So, we ask again, publicly this time, for the NLCA to come and help us and let your members feel they are doing something positive and active. If it is pride that stands in your way there is no need as we have already said to take over and bring your input and knowledge to it. We already have in excess of 150 limos and drivers to join the protest, with the input and support of the NLCA we could double those numbers, and then we can be recognised and an industry that unites to confront a common enemy. If the NLCA still refuse to stand by the industry in what is clearly a widely called for action, then be rest assured it WILL continue without you, and the lack of support will undoubtedly be remembered for a very long time. Please read this short email I received from an ex-operator in response to my email. I have copied and pasted and all I have omitted his name and area to protect his identity. This is email is for the benefit of all those in the ‘8 seat camp’. Tanya and Dan I have just sold my ford Lincoln classic wave DUE TO VOSA.My council are making limousine companies plate their limos like a taxi.Even though my limo had a sva on it when it was brought over from USA, they insist it had to have another SVA to carry passengers.I took my limo for an SVA and VOSA tore it apart, after a second test and hundreds of pounds spent on it, VOSA would only issue an SVA on to carry 5 passengers. The Limo was a normal ford Lincoln classic wave stretched limo; it had not been altered in any way. VOSA have said anyone who as a ford Lincoln classic wave and carry more than 5 passengers is breaking the law. I think VOSA JUST WANT LIMOS OFF THE ROAD. This is one of many emails I have had from people who have been screwed over by non existent legislation. I have also had emails from people who say there are laws in place for them as normal cars. But they are not normal cars, nor are they a bus, a coach, a taxi or a minibus. They are luxury travel, and if we are a big enough problem to be so much of a nuisance to VOSA and other authorities then we are a big enough industry to have very specific legislation for. For operators who wrote to me and said ‘we run on self-drive, and if YOU did it properly you wouldn’t have prosecutions’. First of all we had prosecutions before we had self-drive and second of all did you all know that on self-drive the CUSTOMER can be prosecuted for operating without an operating licence? The hirer makes a booking, and then asks (or charges, in the authorities view) all their friends for their share of the limo. Hire and reward. Therefore the customer can be prosecuted and if the great general public discover that, do you think your phone will ring much? Because I know ours wont! We can blame VOSA for having a vendetta, but they are an agency by definition, for the government. Yes, they love their job I am sure, but they are acting on orders from above. Its there we need to make an impact, with the monkey grinder not the monkeys. We need to tell them what we want and have an input into the laws as an industry. I do understand from those that have posted on Limo Chat that the NLCA were asked for their input and the government is still waiting for it, while the European counterparts have submitted theirs! Getting back to the forum, Dan in Style made some valid points about what we want, and all we want to do is to bring those suggestions forward in a very public way instead of running around like rats down alleys whenever there is a sniff of VOSA at a school prom or similar. It doesn’t matter what camp you sit in, if you don’t join in NOW, and join as ONE camp you can forget about your Ascot bookings because we will all be impounded, if not before, then certainly on the day. You can forget about Christmas shopping trips with ‘ladies that lunch’. Those days will be gone. Your limo will be sat on your yard, compound, driveway or unit with flowers growing in them because that’s all they will be good for! Even the sacred 8 seaters as my email friend has demonstrated. PLEASE DO NOT BE SMUG AND ASSUME YOU WILL BE IMMUNE IF YOU HAVE A COUNCIL LICENCE, COIF, OR RESTRICTED O – THIS APPLIES TO EACH AND EVERY PERSON IN THE INDUSTRY. THIS IS OUR LAST CHANCE TO SAVE OUR INDUSTRY BEFORE PROM SEASON CLOSES AND TAKE US WITH IT. Even limousine parts suppliers, autoglym, insurance companies, finance companies, magazines, or bubbly suppliers – everyone can be a part of this. Bring your sign written van or car and be counted in the numbers. You don’t have to bring a limousine if you don’t have one, a wedding car will do. Just come and be counted amongst your colleagues. We want to be legitimate, with laws that are specific for limousines. At the moment they are trying to fit a square peg into a round hole and unfortunately it doesn’t fit. Lets come together on the 13th May and show everyone that there needs to be a round hole for the round peg and make laws that are especially for us, to safe guard our livelihood, our homes and our industry. The meeting will be held at The Marsh Farm Hotel, 2 miles from J16 off the M4.Marsh Farm HotelWootton BassettSwindonWiltshireSN4 8ER Please let us know your thoughts. Ring or email and let us know you are coming. There are limited rooms available at the hotel at £59 for a single and £69 for a double. You can ring them to make your arrangements.Kindest Regards Tanya and Dan RosemeyerThe Full StretchEmail:- Thefullstretch@aol.comDan: - 07977224986I apologise if you have recieved this email more than once but it is important to get it to everyone. Please pass it on to as many operators as you know. This is not a p****ng competition. Please leave your egos at home. This is for the good of all not just for the good of one.

The Apprentice – You’re Hired!
Chauffeur Car Hire Northampton (http://www.xec-uk.com/), Chauffeur Car Hire Milton Keynes (http://www.xec-uk.com/), Executive Car Hire Northampton (http://www.xec-uk.com/) and Executive Car Hire Milton Keynes (http://www.xec-uk.com/). XEC-UK “Room to Move, on the Move”.I watched the first episode of the new series of The Apprentice last night. I’d rather have been out working but we didn’t have much on. The show is a great concept and has been syndicated in other countries due to its popularity. For those of you that haven’t seen it, there are 12 young high flying entrepreneurs and executives competing to be Sir Alan Sugar’s apprentice. Each week Sir Alan splits them into two groups and sets them a task. Each group selects a project Leader and sets about beating the other group. One person from the losing group is fired each week until the last person standing gets the job. As a contestant you need to keep your head down in the early stages. I know from watching previous series that you make yourself a target if you’re too outspoken in the early rounds. For this reason you generally find that the contestants are reluctant to take on the role of project Leader in the early rounds. I’m particularly interested in the cars they use when out and about on their tasks. They’re nice cars; I think they’re a Chrysler but would like to know the exact make and model if anyone knows. They look like a good executive car with a high spec and would be ideal for my business. I also wonder who provides the cars and the drivers. I assume it’s a blue chip London based company, I wonder if they’ve got any vacanciesSo, while the would-be apprentices get fired one by one each week, I’d love to get hired. F1 is back – Great!

It’s great to have it back even if it had become a bit processional over recent years. I think this season will be better. Although Lewis looks to be strong and is quickest again in Malaysia, there are a number of other drivers and teams that are well placed to challenge. You may not know this but the home of the British Grand Prix, Silverstone, is in Northamptonshire. I’m kept very busy over the four days that the tour is in town. Many local businesses entertain their clients at the Grand Prix so I’m busy driving between the circuit and neighbouring towns. I’m pleased to say the traffic flow has improved over the years. Race day is still a bit hairy bur under the circumstances things move reasonably well.Did you know that Silverstone was not the only major race track in Northamptonshire? The keener race goers among you will know that Rockingham and, for the dragsters, Santa Pod are also both located in Northamptonshire. GuilfStanwick Chauffeur (http://www.xec-uk.com/)

London Heathrow Terminal 5
Heathrow Airports new Terminal was officially opened today (Friday 14 March) by the Queen providing much needed extra passenger capacity at Europe’s busiest Airport. The £4.5bn project has not been without its controversy particular concern being raised by environmental groups. BAA has always claimed that there will be no increase in the number of flights. I’ve seen the new building up close during my frequent trips to the airport through my Northampton chauffeur cars (http://www.xec-uk.com/) and Milton Keynes chauffeur cars (http://www.xec-uk.com/) business. The building is quite stunning and is a state of the art facility bringing Heathrow right up to date. Once operational, attention will turn to Terminal 1 which is in much need of modernisation. Some interesting facts relating to Terminal 5: Construction began: September 200260,000 people have worked a total of 100 million man hours to buildAircraft stands: 60 by 2010Car park spaces: 3,800Self service check-in kiosks: 96Standard check-in desks: 54Security lanes: 20Bags processed per hour: 12,000Lifts: 192Escalators: 105Retail units: 112 The first passengers are due to use the Terminal in a fortnight’s time. Choosing the Right Limo Provider Can Make or Break Your the Big Event
Owner of NY 54 Limousines services offers tips on how to choose a limo service. Renting a limo can seem like a daunting task given the number of car services operating in the Valley of the Sun. Reliability, safety and driver qualifications are just a few of the things people often concern themselves with when looking for the right company. But there are some basic questions you can ask to ensure you're hiring a reputable firm. Many companies that offer car services and luxury limousines operate without licenses and the majority do not conduct thorough background checks on their drivers. Additionally, large cities like Phoenix often see firms that have violated the law disappear only to resurface again under a different name. There are a lot of car services out there and choosing the right one can seem overwhelming, says Darren Pascale, owner of NY 54 Limousines. But there are some basic questions you can ask to ensure you're hiring a reputable firm. Pascale recommends customers do their homework before choosing a limo sedan service, by both checking with the Better Business Bureau and asking the right questions. Here's what to look for:Check references. Ask about feedback from past clients. Ask for proof of insurance. Is the company insured in case of an accident? Seek quality chauffeurs. Know who is behind the wheel driving your loved ones. Get everything in writing. This will protect you from any discrepancies down the road. Look before you buy. If the vehicle is important to you, request to see the vehicle before you make a reservation. You get what you pay for. Low prices may mean older vehicles, inexperienced chauffeurs and companies with no insurance. If the limousine service company doesn't offer a written contract and won't show you proof of driver insurance and car safety certification, they are definitely hiding something, says Pascale. Pascale also suggests checking to see if the company is affiliated with the National Limousine Association (www.limo.org (http://www.limo.org/)), a voluntary, non-profit organization dedicated to representing and furthering the interests of the luxury chauffeured ground transportation industry. Another key organization locally is the Arizona Livery Association (www.azliveryassociation.org (http://www.azliveryassociation.org/)), which promotes the ground transportation industry by increasing awareness of and confidence in its members. About NY 54 Limousines:Chandler, Arizona-based NY 54 Limousines is a limousine and luxury sedan transportation company with a fleet of high quality, late-model cars serving the entire Phoenix metropolitan area. NY 54 offers guests stylish and safe transportation for events ranging from weddings, proms and private parties to everyday airport and corporate transportation. London - Sporting and Business Capital
I had some pretty happy Chelsea fans in the Viano last night. Chelsea have progressed to the quarter finals of the Champions League along with Manchester Utd and Arsenal. If Liverpool capitalise on their 2 goal advantage over Inter Milan next week that will leave all 4 Premier League clubs in the last 8. I offer chauffeured travel services Bedfordshire and Chauffeured travel services Northamptonshire and as such my work often involves taking migrant football fans down to the Capital to see their teams. Many people have moved out of London to the neighbouring counties but still maintain their allegiance to their football team.In addition to visits to the Capitals football clubs I also find that my Northamptonshire Chauffeur Service and Buckinghamshire Chauffeur Service also takes me to the home of Rugby, Twickenham, and a number of other iconic sporting venues such as Wembley and Wimbledon. My Business Travel Milton Keynes and Business Travel Northampton services also regularly take me into London. Again, businesses move out of London to reduce costs but still need to do business in and maintain a presence in one of the World’s largest commercial centres.

Why People Like Limousines!
Limousines have an appeal to many people, both private consumers and businesses alike. For the rich, the benefits are fairly obvious. Since they have a large disposable income, they have money to spend on a comfortable mode of transport in which they themselves do not have to drive. In this way, they can sit back, enjoy a drink, watch TV, or even conduct business while en route to their destination. Now they don’t have to deal with the increased stress of traffic. They enjoy the fact that at a moments notice in many cases they can call up their driver to take them where they need to go.For private renters not of the rich class, they have the appeal of making them feel like the rich class. Since the middle class normally drives themselves or takes public transport like busses, subways or taxis, the idea of riding in a limousine for a change is refreshing. For the eight or so hours of their rental agreement they get to ride around in the style and comfort the rich class gets to enjoy. For special occasions like a high school prom to a wedding, they can make it more memorable and enjoyable experience. The cost of a rental is fairly high, however the occasions that warrant such a rental normally costs a good amount of money anyway, so another charge is a drop in the bucket.Businesses and government agencies also find uses for such conveyances. In situations such as business trips, using a limousine to transport the upper level executives of large companies is not uncommon. This provides a chance for the company to get their employees where they need to go in a way that gives them reason to enjoy otherwise inconvenient trips. Also they can be used for visiting dignitaries or executives from other companies. This allows the business or agency to show off in a way, or to show good faith to the visitor. Because of this, relations could start off on a good note.

Mercedes Viano Bench Seat
I drive a Mercedes Viano as part of my chauffeur driven car hire Northamptonshire (http://www.xec-uk.com/) business. My Viano has four individual seats in the back and a pull out table. When I set up my chauffeur car service Northamptonshire (http://www.xec-uk.com/) I had in mind that I would get most of my business from the executive business travel Northamptonshire (http://www.xec-uk.com/) market. As it has transpired, most of my business has come from Northamptonshire airport transfers to London Heathrow (http://www.xec-uk.com/) and other major airports. As such I receive calls from a lot of customers wanting a vehicle to take 6 or more people. So, at the moment I am turning away business as I can only accommodate 5. What I need is a bench seat which would then enable me to carry 6 passengers. To that end, does anybody know of any places to pick up Viano bench seats without paying dealership prices? Free Parking Around LHR
I'm new to this business having been operating XEC-UK for about 3 months now. Most of my Northamptonshire Chauffeured Vehicle Service work has taken me to the UK's major airports. I find most of my work is Executive Chauffeur Driven Car Hire in London. As such most of my Airport Transfers from Northamptonshire take me to London Heathrow. I tend to arrive at the airport in plenty of time and in order to avoid punitive parking costs am always looking to park up outside the terminals. I'll talk about the road congestion and exorbitant parking charges in future blogs.Anyway, this may not be news to the experienced drivers among us but I've found a good spot to park up for a couple of hours free of charge. It's near T4 and it's the 'ON The Run' service station. No charge for parking, you can use the loo and grab a coffee while you wait - ideal!Does anybody know of any other good free parking spots around the UK's airports? Checker Sedan
Whether it's corporate or private travel, professional chauffeurs are friendly, discrete and knowledgeable driving companions who will make sure your journey is both safe and comfortable, arriving at your destination feeling refreshed and relaxed. The chauffeur profession calls for a unique blend of driving and social skills. And yes, there's much more to being a professional chauffeur than simply being a good driver. All chauffeurs are also registered and inspected by the local authorities and should be fully licensed with a security check for your peace of mind. The vehicle owned by the chauffeur or luxury sedan company must be legally roadworthy and fully insured.Responsibilities for each professional chauffeur may very slightly. Some of the things a good chauffeur should know are etiquette skills, risk management, both personal and public safety awareness. Also, how to drive in a style that enhances passenger comfort, creates less stress for the driver, and reduces fuel consumption and vehicle wear. A typical chauffeur will cater most events, from large conferences to corporate road shows, from airport transfers to shopping trips and days out to weddings.A professional chauffeur should also know advanced driving techniques, including the recognition and perception of hazards, such as coping with a wide range of road surfaces and weather conditions; as well as have an understanding of modern vehicle dynamics, including skid awareness and dynamic systems. He or she should also know how to plan a route for comfort, efficiency and safety.Professional chauffeurs operate a variety of vehicles that include limousines or luxury sedans, vans, and private cars for limousine companies, private businesses, government agencies, and wealthy individuals. Chauffeur service differs from taxi service in that all trips are prearranged. Many chauffeurs transport customers in large vans between hotels and airports, as well as bus or train terminals. Others drive luxury automobiles, such as sedans or black cars, to business events, entertainment venues, and social events. Still others provide full-time personal transportation for wealthy families and private companies. At the beginning of the workday, chauffeurs prepare their vehicles for use. They inspect the vehicle for cleanliness and, when needed, vacuum the interior and wash the exterior body, windows, and mirrors. They check fuel and oil levels, and make sure the lights, tires, brakes, and windshield wipers work. Chauffeurs may perform routine maintenance and make minor repairs, such as changing tires or adding oil and other fluids when needed. If a vehicle requires a more complicated repair, they take it to a professional mechanic.Chauffeurs cater to passengers by providing attentive customer service and paying attention to detail. They help riders into the car by holding open doors, holding umbrellas when it is raining, and loading packages and luggage into the trunk of the car. Chauffeurs may perform errands for their employers such as delivering packages or picking up clients arriving at airports. To ensure a pleasurable ride in their limousines, many chauffeurs offer conveniences and luxuries such as newspapers, magazines, music, drinks, televisions, and telephones. More often these days, chauffeurs work as full-service executive assistants, acting simultaneously as driver, secretary and itinerary planner. When it comes to licensing chauffeurs, some states require only a passenger endorsement on a driver's license; other states require only that drivers be certified by their employer; while others require a Commercial Driver's License with a passenger endorsement. While states set licensing requirements, local regulatory bodies usually set other terms and conditions. These often include requirements for training, which varies greatly. Some localities require new drivers to enroll in training programs consisting of up to 80 hours of classroom instruction before they are allowed to work. To qualify through either an exam or a training program, applicants must know local geography, motor vehicle laws, safe driving practices, and relevant regulations and display some aptitude for customer service.Other localities require an English proficiency test, usually in the form of listening comprehension; applicants who do not pass the English exam must take an English course in addition to any formal driving programs. Some classroom instruction includes route management, map reading, and service for passengers with disabilities. Many luxury sedan or limo companies sponsor applicants, giving them a temporary permit that allows them to drive before they have finished the training program and passed the test. Some jurisdictions, such as New York City, have discontinued this practice and now require driver applicants to complete the licensing process before operating a taxi or limousine. If you're looking for a luxury sedan service that hires the courteous, most professional chauffeurs in the business, why not check out Checker Sedan, the luxury sedan company in the Detroit metropolitan area that provides excellent service from your driveway to the runway. It's one of the fastest growing, most customer-focused, chauffeur-driven, licensed luxury sedan companies in Detroit and the surrounding suburbs. Hangover
I must feel sorry for all the welsh chauffeur stroke taxi drivers yesterday as they had a long journey down to Twickenham to see England v Wales in the Six Nations listening to the game on the old radio!During half time thinking that they would have a very quite drive home as the welsh team where losing 16 - 6 and the old boyo's would be drowned rats and all would be asleep on the long trek home! But NO the lads listened to some Tom Jones at half time and triumphed over the old enemy! So the poor old drivers had noise noise and loads of PEE stops on the way home! And plenty of ear bashing songs drowned down their plugholes! Anyway something like this only happens once in every 20 years so they make the most of it! Well done Wales and well done to all the drivers!

Licences team cracks down on suspect driver
A MAN driving innocent passengers in a car without a license has been successfully prosecuted and given a criminal record thanks to South Somerset District Council's licensing team. A 41-year-old man from Yeovil was tracked by the Council, and was detained by police in Avon and Somerset driving on the way to Heathrow Airport with passengers still in the vehicle. The board of the license enforcement officer, Nigel Marston, said: We followed up on some intelligence that led to working with the police to take the driver to court. He has been driving for a year without a license to drive a private hire vehicle, and none for the car, he now has a criminal record after being found guilty of three charges, thanks to our work in partnership with the police. Travelling in a unlicenced mini cab taxi or car has many risks, the driver would probably not have had a recent criminal history check in order to verify he had no convictions, and the car would not have valid insurance in the case of an accident, so there would be no insurance cover. Moreover, the car is not roadworthy as they have not gone through our rigorous controls to ensure that the car is suitable for such use. Cllr Ric Pallister, the council's portfolio holder for housing, environmental health and inclusion, said: With safety as a high priority will continue working closely with the police to ensure the safety of our residents in the using of taxis and rental cars. As we come up to the Christmas period I want to remind everyone to check that they are using licensed vehicles and licensed drivers. If in doubt do not use the vehicle and to report it. Mr. Marston added: There are very few cases like this and we do generally have a fantastic community of licensed drivers.

The history of the London Black Cab Trade
The first black taxi in London was the Hackney coach in the 17th Century. The name comes from hacquenée, the French term for a general-purpose horse. It literally means , ambling grouch. In 1625 there were only 20 for rent, operating costs, the Inn meters. In 1636, the owner of four buses wage workers brought in the beach outside the maypole Inn, and the first taxi stand was released. He noted that a tariff for the various parts of London, and his driver wore clothes, so that they would be easily recognizable. Hackney carriage is still the official name for taxis. Regulation of Trade In 1636 Charles I have a proclamation to 50 Hackney Carriagesriages ply for hire in London. He stayed up to the city councils to ensure that those numbers are not exceeded. After the Civil War, in 1654 by Oliver Cromwell creation of the Fellowship of Master Hackney Carriages by the Act of Parliament, and taxi driving is a profession. 200 wage workers were now allowed. The law was adopted in 1662 under Charles II by a new law that the buses wage workers to be licensed and limited their number to 400th In 1688 the number rose to 600, and then again six years later by an Act of Parliament to 700th In 1711, 800 licenses were issued, and then further 200th In 1833 the trade was unregulated, and there was no longer a restriction on the amount of taxis. The only limitation was that the driver and vehicle fit and proper , a condition that still applies today. This makes the licensed taxi trade of the oldest regulated public transport in the world, and it is for the people in the trade, so it requires. The rivalry between licensed and unlicensed vehicles rent was about as long as the taxi trade. The vehicles When the driver began with mild convertibles, two vehicles from France, at the beginning of the 19th Century, they were known as taxis . The name comes from the French for jump like a goat, as they were very bright, and tend to bounce through the streets. Wilhelm Bruhn invented the taximeter, 1891, and it is from this that the term comes from the taxi. The taximeter measures the distance and time of all trips, the exact rate to be charged. The word comes from French taxe ( 'Price') and the Greek Metron ( Action ). Previous inventions for the calculation of tariffs, the Patent Index Mile in 1847, and the Kilo Metric Register in 1858. This has been the reluctance by taxi drivers, because they do not want their income by machines. Even Bruhn ended thrown into the river by drivers, even though his invention is still in use today. In 1832, Edward Boulnois one two wheels, enclosed cabin for the carriage driver wage workers. Unfortunately, it was not very popular, as was the door on the back side. When the driver was sitting on the front, it was too easy for the passengers to jump without the fare. The early mechanical booths were by a variety of manufacturers, but brought her to Austin High Lot cab on the market, they gradually took over. They brought the low-loader, Flash Lot, the FX3, and then the FX4. The FX4 (also known as the Fairway), it is what many people think today, when the black taxis are called, and (along with the Mini) was one of the longest lived of car design. The TX1 followed the FX4, if needed wheelchair-accessible cabs. The only practical alternative is now the Metrocab, but the FX4 is still the most popular taxi in the street. There are a number of booths available to rent wines, but because they do not comply with modern requirements they will only be hired privately for special occasions. Drivers often flee meter run. A distinction must be consulted on the Asquith taxi. Duplication cab style on the original Austin High Lot, there are ten Asquiths licensed to ply for hire on the streets of London. However, most drivers use them for private events. They are no longer in production. Specifications All black taxis, the 'Condtions of health'. That is, they must have a 25ft (7.6 m) turning circle, the cabin U-turn on a central square that the interior must be high enough that a bowler-hatted passengers can sit comfortably, and that access to If the soil, and not about 15in (38cm) from the floor. All booths must also wheelchair accessible. To ensure that the taxis to the conditions of health, and that they are safe for the public, they all have a test three times stricter than the MOT1 for private cars per year. For example, the tires on a private car need only legal at the time of the audit. A taxi will wear until the next test. If the tire does not last a year, they will not happen. Taxis are also on the inspectors do spot checks on the streets. If the car is not, it will not be able to apply for the rent again until they returned to the transfer station for a test. Taxis must not black. You can use different forms of advertising on the plates of the cars, namely: single door advertising, double-door advertising (the doors on each side must match), and the full body advertising, the coloring. Nothing is allowed on the boat because the number plate and the registration number should not be obscured. The driver In the early days of the taxi, the driver hired vehicles from a holder who owned a fleet. Today, the opposite is the case. Most drivers own their own cars, and only a few fleets of significant size. Drivers will not stop if you hail them, regardless of whether the yellow 'taxi' sign is lit. This is because, legally, are not taxis plying for hire, if they move. However, if they stop it as in the street and can not refuse a fare under six miles2, or, in less than an hour. These rules are to prevent the now non-existent horse3 from too tired or thirsty. As a general rule, if the taxi driver to pay his belt, he is not for hire. As taxi drivers not to wear seat belts if they work, pay a driver is likely to drive. The tariffs are by the Parliament, and always been the case. They are time and distance, plus extras . Extras additional passengers, luggage about 60cm long, and the rents in the evening, on weekends and holidays. For trips to the passenger outside the Metropolitan Police District, the price can be negotiated with the driver. Fascinating Facts Taxis were prohibited ride through Hyde Park 1685. This was due to the unstable behavior of some women workers in a labor coach. The ban was in 1687, only to return in 1711 because of multiple disorders . Time that the ban lasted until 1924. Taxi drivers are not legally obliged to change. If a note is the big driver is entitled to the cash, and offer after the changeover to the passenger at home. The 'knowledge of London was 1851 by Sir Richard Mayne after complaints that taxi drivers do not know where they went. Passing the Knowledge includes detailed recall of 25000 streets in a radius of six miles of Charing Cross Station. Locations of the clubs, Hospitals, hotels, railway stations, parks, theatres, courts, restaurants, schools, government buildings and places of worship are also required. It can be after three years in the audit, including the six months to be tested. Only one percent of the London taxi drivers are women. The original stage buses were certain Hackney Carriages, whose driver travelled in stages, which means that they would drive short distances along a fixed route up Rates on definite stops. As part of this trade grew, it was eventually buses, and then the bus transportation system we have today. The London Taxi Drivers' Fund for Underprivileged Children began in 1928, when 12 London taxi drivers took children from a local orphanage to London Zoo. Now they take the kids to Disneyland, Paris, France for a few days.

FORD INTRODUCES FIRST HYBRID LIVERY PACKAGE
Ford Motor Company is promoting its luxuriously equipped, fuel-sipping Mercury Mariner Hybrid as an eco-friendly alternative to stretch limos at a time when the Ford is the first automaker to introduce a hybrid livery package, which demonstrates the company's commitment and innovation to the limo/livery industry, said Doug Walczak, Ford North American Fleet limousine and livery manager. There has been demand for a hybrid livery vehicle for some time, said Walczak. More and more livery clients are asking operators for environmentally friendly options. In turn, the operators are coming to us for a solution. Ford is offering the Mariner Hybrid with a luxury package as an alternative to its Lincoln Town Car, which is the premier choice of luxury sedans in the limo/livery industry and accounts for more than 80 percent of the market share. Walczak said that the small SUV is getting serious consideration. The Mariner Hybrid addresses a market need, said Walczak. Compared to the other hybrids, the Mariner Hybrid is roomier and has more cargo capacity than the Toyota Prius and is much less expensive than Lexus hybrids. The Environmental Protection Agency rates Mariner Hybrid at 34 mpg in city driving and 30 on the highway. By comparison, the fuel economy of larger livery vehicles is often less than half or even a third of the Mariner. The Mariner Hybrid turned a lot of heads at the recent Limo and Limousine Chauffeured Transportation (LCT) Eastern Conference and New England Livery Association trade show and convention in Connecticut. In fact, Mark Shpilner, owner of Limousine 18 in Boston recently took delivery of his first Mariner Hybrid from the Lincoln-Mercury dealership in nearby Acton, Mass. I sold a 2003 Chevy Suburban and decided to try a Mariner, Shpilner said. We're going to put it out there (as an option for our customers), and see what happens. According to the National Limousine Association, the growing limo/livery industry has nearly 9,500 companies nationwide, operating approximately 131,600 vehicles from sedans to super-stretch SUVs and tour buses, and serving 1.38 billion passengers annually. There are an estimated additional 2,500 limo/livery operators around the world. The annual gross revenue for operators in the United States is $2.4 billion and the industry's suppliers (i.e., vehicle modifiers) rack up $2 billion in annual sales. The use of hybrids and alternative fuel vehicles is seen as a growing trend. A lot of operators are really interested in it, but a lot are still hesitant, said Camella Lobo of LCT magazine. A lot of the larger operators that serve corporate clients are driving the trend. Johan DeLeeuw, president of Olympus Limousines in Atlanta, said some of his corporate clients require or encourage their use environmentally responsible green vehicles. A number of prominent hotels, for example, promote Olympus' use of flex-fuel vehicles and participation in a carbon offset program as part of the hotels' earth-friendly operations. We also work for big companies like Coca-Cola that require us to have a 'green' program in place. Without it, we won't even get on their property, DeLeeuw said, adding that he doesn't see the trend turning around down the road. Five years from now, if a transportation company doesn't have a 'green' program, it will have a serious problem. Olympus is reducing its carbon footprint as a founding member of the Limousine Environmental Action Partnership (LEAP), a consulting firm that assists limo/livery companies to become more sustainable. Sustainability is here to stay, said LEAP founder Patricia Charla, whose background is in corporate travel. Being 'green' is a competitive advantage for corporations today. Limo/livery operators that deliver on their corporate clientele's demands for environmentally friendly transportation will win more business.

Looking the Part
If you are a chauffeur then you must look the part as you are offering a service to your customers and representing your company! The image you portray is you (and also your vehicle but thats another story) The worst thing ever is to see a sloppy tie! If you wear a tie then it should be worn correctly otherwise you look slopply! A clean suit a clean shirt will still look sloppy if your tie is not done up correctly! Then there is you shoes people judge others just by looking at there shoes so remember to clean and make them shine! When you start looking the part then you feel a lot better! Now you have the clothes don't spoil it by looking scruffy shave and if you have not washed your hair at least make sure its tidy! Although customers may not say anything they do like to think that you have made an effort and not taken them for granted. So next time your at the airport see how many you can spot holding up a board with EXECUTIVE cars and the driver looks like he has just come out of a bar on his STAG NIGHT!!

A taxi driver fell asleep
AN UNLICENCED taxi driver who fell asleep at the wheel when he was taking a family to the airport has been banned from the road for one year. Graham Brown, 11b Trenowaths Place, Lynn, admitted knowingly acting as a driver of a private hire car without a current driver's licence. Brown took a family of four adults and two children, aged six and four, to Gatwick, while working for Haz Autos in June, the court heard. En route to the airport, he stopped to buy and down two cans of energy drink Redbull, but nodded off on the M11 and only awoke when one of the passengers shouted his name. Horrified passengers then took over the wheel for the remainder of the trip, while Brown snoozed, magistrates were told. Brown told the court that he used to drive taxis as a fill in between engineering contracts, but left his private hire licensed lapse. Then, in March 2006, he suffered a back injury in a road accident, which prevented him from working and he had no income for 15-16 months, he said. Brown told magistrates his marriage has been broken by his financial problems and he has decided to take the job to the airport, with the hope to use the money to renew his license and get back on track . I knew that I was not fully fit to return to work but the circumstances were such that I had to support my family, he added. Before sentencing, the court said Brown had three points on his license for careless driving after an accident on the M11 and a further six points for speeding. The court was told police had questioned him during the June incident, but were unable to take any action. Haz's Cars were finedand the company apologized and was ordered to pay a £500 fine £250 costs and a £15 surcharge. After the case, Shaun passengers Akers (36), , said he was pleased justice had been done. I am happy that he has a ban, he said. You look back and think about what could have happened. I will never take a taxi again.

Reading's New Car Park Introduces 21st Century Parking

Ramps to and from the different levels are wide and shallow, and the construction design eliminates intrusive or obstructive columns - both of which help make parking fast and simple. In contrast with the old, grey concrete structure, this is a good example of a car park designed to the highest standards, both in terms of external appearance, but also in terms of a customer safety and the facilities available to drivers on site. Car park charges are highly competitive: Parking time Tariff Up to 1 hour £1.00 Up to 2 hours £2.00 Up to 4 hours £3.00 Up to 6 hours £7.00 Up to 12 hours £11.00 Up to 24 hours £12.00 Overnight (6pm - 8pm) £2.00 The new Chatham Place car park is part of a £250 million mixed-used development in Reading town centre by Muse Developments (formerly AMEC). DIANA INQUEST HEARS DRIVER 'TIPS-OFF' PAPARAZZI
The jury in the investigation into the death of DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES heard how his chauffeur HENRI PAUL appeared to be responsible for tipping off the paparazzi about the whereabouts of the British royal. The investigation aims to establish whether Diana and her friend Dodi Fayed, who were killed in a 1997 Paris car crash, were simply victims of a tragic accident, or if they have been the target of a conspiracy of murder led by the royal family, as claimed by Fayed's father, tycoon Mohamed Al Fayed. During the third day of deliberations at the High Court in London on Thursday (04Oct07), the jury has learned about a particular theory - that driver Paul had received cash from photographers in exchange for information about Diana and Fayed’s location. Paul - who also perished in the accident, was found two and a half times over the alcohol limit when driving, and a search of his body discovered $ 2,400 (GBP1, 200) in his pocket leading At speculation on his participation with the paparazzi. The 11 man jury was shown CCTV footage of Paul as the princess and Fayed were preparing to leave the Hotel Ritz in the French capital, on Aug. 30, 1997. The security video shows Paul chatting to three paparazzi outside the main entrance of the hotel in the Place Vendome, and, just after midnight on Aug. 31, appearing to point to four snappers waiting at the back door of the building, allegedly showing of Diana and Fayed’s imminent exit. Lord Justice Scott Baker, the judge presiding over the investigation, the jury was asked to consider the possibility of Paul’s betrayal and to determine whether he had contributed to causing accidental death of the couple after being chased by paparazzi. The case continues.
